MC Driller- the early days

Aidan and Griff are drilling holes for the t-nuts. T-nuts are a type of nut that you put on the back of a piece of wood. They're designed to nail into place so you can place removable holds on the other side. You've got to do it carefully so that they won't spin once they're in. I thought about various ways to drill the holes- a random pattern or a grid and decided on a grid. I figure if I have enough holes, that it would be enough granularity to make it random by moving holds. To do this grid, we took a chalk line and snapped lines for where the holds would be. We ended up buying thousands of t-nuts- the good advice that I got was that you couldn't have too many.

Using your head

The kids are going to be tall, we know that. But for now, we're going to have to do the heavy lifting. That doesn't mean you can't use good engineering techniques (the board is suspended by a climbing rope too) and style while you work! Here we have my lovely assistant moving a section of roof into place. Posted by Picasa
